Tournament Draw for 50+ Division – Version 2 (as of 3/3/2025)

There will be 8 teams in the division. As most teams travel to enjoy the tournament, they wish to play against teams that they don’t face frequently within their geographic region. Here’s how we are going to achieve that in the team drawing procedure.

  • There will be no grouping within the division. The 8 teams will be placed as teams 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
  • The 8 teams will be grouped into 2 regions – South and West – in alphabetical order. As the 8 team captains discussed and agreed, Toronto will be part of the South Region, and PKU will be part of the West region. Initial placement within each region is based on the payment order.
    • South – Houston Tang Dynasty, Texas Old Guns, Toronto Old Boys, Dallas Thunder
    • West – Irvine United, PKU Evergreen, SoCal Old Birds, SV Tigers 50+
  • Teams in one region will be drawn as Teams 1, 3, 5 and 7. Teams in the other region will be Teams 2, 4, 6 and 8.
  • To prevent teams within a region from facing each other, the odd number teams (i.e., Teams 1, 3, 5 and 7) will play against the 4 even number teams (i.e., Teams 2, 4, 6 and 8).
  • Since every game is between an odd number team and an even number team, there’s no difference whether a region draws the odd numbers or even numbers. To make things a little simpler, the South region will be Teams 1357, and the West region will be Teams 2468.
  • The closing price of stock indexes on March 4th, 2025 will be used as seeds to generate the randomly generated sequences for the drawing.
    • The closing price of Dow will be used as the seed for the randomly generated sequence for the South region (as Teams 1357).
    • The closing price of Nasdaq will be used as the seed for the randomly generated sequence for the West region (as Teams 2468).
  • The drawing only determines whether you play a specific opponent on Saturday or Sunday. Each team already knows which four teams they will face in the tournament.
  • Example: If the generated sequence for the South region is 2413, the 4 teams based on payment order will be Teams B3, B7, B1, B5.
