It is great to have 9 teams in a division. As most teams travel to enjoy the tournament, they wish to play against teams that they don’t face frequently within their geographic region. Here’s how we are going to achieve that in the team drawing procedure.
- There will be no grouping within the division. The 9 teams will be placed as teams 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
- Teams 123, 456, and 789 will play against each other on day 1 of the tournament. Teams 147, 258, and 369 will play against each other on day 2.
- The 9 teams will temporarily be grouped into 3 regions – East, South, West – in alphabetical order. Placement within each region is based on the payment order.
- East – PKU Evergreen, New Jersey Bridgewater, Toronto Old Boys
- South – Houston Tang Dynasty, Texas Old Guns, Dallas Thunder
- West – Irvine United, SoCal Old Birds, SV Tigers 50+
- Each team in a region will be drawn into a different segment of the division. I.e., one team will be either Team 1, 2 or 3. Another team will be either Team 4, 5 or 6. And the third team will be Team 7, 8 or 9. This will prevent teams within a region from facing each other on day 1.
- Teams within the same region should not end up with the same position within each segment. I.e., position 1, 2 or 3 within each segment. Teams in one region will be drawn as Teams 1,5,9. Teams in another region will be drawn as Teams 2,6,7. Teams in the third region will be drawn as Teams 3,4,8. This will ensure that Teams 147, 258, 369 will not have teams within the same region.
- The first round of the drawing will determine the position of each region. The random sequence will be based on the closing price of Dow. Each region will become either teams 159, 267 or 348.
- The second round of the drawing will determine the position of teams within each region. E.g., if the East region was drawn as teams 159, this round of drawing will decide which team is Team 1, Team 5 or Team 9.
- The closing price of Nasdaq will be used as the seed for the randomly generated sequence for group 1 (as Teams 159).
- The closing price of NYSE will be used as the seed for the randomly generated sequence for group 2 (as Teams 267).
- The closing price of S&P 500 will be used as the seed for the randomly generated sequence for group 3 (as Teams 348).
